While visitation at many units of the National Park System across the country remained below pre-pandemic totals, at Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area, it was at a near record-high. Last year’s visitation increased to well over 800,000, nearly 10 percent more than 2020, when COVID-19 shuttered facilities in most parks for at least part of the year.
“It’s wonderful to see so many new and repeat visitors, both local, and from out-of-town, continuing to find solace and inspiration in this incredible place during the second year of the pandemic,” said Superintendent Niki Stephanie Nicholas. “Whatever outdoor recreational experience you’re looking for in 2022, Big South Fork is here to discover."
