Nature Journaling Club

A collage of artistic nature journaling projects
All levels welcome at Biscayne national Park's Nature Journal Club Meetings
Biscayne National Park invites nature journalers of all levels to come out to the park for some socially-distanced creative time. We'll even supply the materials to get you started (though you can certainly bring your own, too!).

So, what IS nature journaling? Mostly, it is about taking the time to really observe something and transfer those observations onto paper as a sketch, painting, poem or prose...and often a full combination of those things.

Avid journaler, former National Park Ranger and current Biscayne National Park Volunteer Laurie Householder is coordinating a twice-monthly opportunity to get creative, get inspired and learn from one another as we learn about various aspects of the park. Each second and fourth Thursday of the month, we'll meet at 10:00 am at the park's Dante Fascell Visitor Center. We'll head out somewhere around Convoy Point to spend a few minutes learning about a specific plant, animal, phenomenon or historical tidbit, then we'll each create something inspired by that thing. We'll end by sharing what we've created with one another, further learning about how others see the same thing.

One need not be an artist or writer to start, and the hardest part is just dedicating the time to getting started. We will offer plenty of encouragement, and if you do not have supplies of your own, we will provide a simple mixed-media journal and basic sketching/watercolor supplies to get you started!
