Big Hole National Battlefield Visitor Center to Reopen
WISDOM, Mont. – Big Hole National Battlefield will reopen its visitor center on Tuesday, October 5, 2021. Visitor center hours of operation will be Tuesday – Saturday from 10:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. The park and visitor center closed on July 17, 2021 due to the Trail Creek Fire. Big Hole National Battlefield’s lower parking lot, trails and picnic area remain closed for public safety and resource protection.
“Park Rangers are excited to reopen the visitor center,” said Superintendent Steve Thede. “The safety of our employees and visitors continues to be our priority as we increase public access and services.”
The Trail Creek Fire is still active in the area with 67% of strategies implemented and objectives completed. Before visiting, please check the park website (www.nps.gov/biho) to confirm operational status and review any park alerts. A return to full operations will continue to be phased and services may be limited as fire and repair/rehabilitation operations continue.
To promote our staff and visitors’ safety during the COVID-19 pandemic, masks are required in all NPS buildings, regardless of vaccination status. To facilitate social distancing, Big Hole National Battlefield has reduced the visitor center occupancy to 30 people. While the visitor center is accessible for visitors to enjoy, a return to full operations will continue to be phased and services may be limited.
We will continue to monitor all park functions to ensure that visitors adhere to CDC guidance for mitigating risks associated with the transmission of COVID-19 and take any additional steps necessary to protect public health.
Details and updates on park operations will continue to be posted on our website www.nps.gov/biho and social media channels. Updates about NPS operations regarding the pandemic will be posted on www.nps.gov/coronavirus.
