Deer mouse
With the new threat of West Nile virus rapidly spreading west, and the annual concern of Sin Nombre Hanta virus, the park has established safety procedures utilizing Integrated Pest Management techniques to keep staff and visitors safe. Deer flies, mosquitos, and other pests are found at the site and are monitored regularly so precautions can be taken when necessary. An occasional rattlesnake may venture near the fort so visitors should always stay on the established trail.
