On Saturday, Oct. 8, Bandelier will host its first Fall Fiesta since 2019. The event will take place in Frijoles Canyon in the main picnic area and around the Bandelier Visitor Center from 11 am to 3 pm. Throughout the summer, cultural demonstrators from nearby Pueblos showcase their work at the park. These demonstrators are invited to sell their crafts and meet with visitors and each other at the Fall Fiesta. Handmade items that are expected to be available for sale include pottery, jewelry, drums, and carvings.
The Oak Canyon Dancers from the Pueblo of Jemez, NM are scheduled to present traditional dances several times during the day. The Oak Canyon Dancers are a family group that have performed traditional dances for more than 20 years.
“This is a wonderful opportunity, and we are very lucky to have these fine Pueblo artisans and demonstrators come and share their skills, knowledge, and beautiful work. Their stories and knowledge of the area help us make connections with the Pueblos that surround Bandelier today and the Ancestral Pueblo people," stated Bandelier Superintendent Patrick Suddath.
Free shuttle buses are required to access Frijoles Canyon from 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. and will run every 20 minutes starting at the White Rock Visitor Center.
Bandelier National Monument is open every day from sunrise to sunset. In Frijoles Canyon, the park visitor center and the park store (operated by Western National Parks Association) are open daily from 9 am to 5 pm and the café, Sirphey at Bandelier, is open from 9am to 4:30pm.
