LOS ALAMOS, N.M. – Bandelier will be hosting a Wilderness Project Day on Saturday, September 23rd to celebrate National Public Lands Day and to recognize September as National Wilderness Month. Park staff and volunteers will meet at Bandelier’s Cottonwood Day Use Area at 8:00 am. They will spend the day replacing and/or installing new signs that welcome visitors into the Bandelier Wilderness. Most sign locations are accessed from Frijoles Canyon and include up to three miles of hiking and up to 500 feet of elevation gain and loss depending on the location.

Due to the nature of the project, volunteers should be in a good physical condition and be able to hike up to three miles with a heavy pack. Volunteers should bring a backpack with food, at least two liters of water, sun protection, long sleeves, work gloves, and eye protection. If you are interested in volunteering or have questions about this event, please contact Ranger Dennis Milligan at (505) 672-3861 x1401 or Dennis_Milligan@nps.gov. Park entry is free on the day of the Wilderness Project Day to celebrate National Public Lands Day.

Bandelier National Monument is open every day from sunrise to sunset. In Frijoles Canyon, the park visitor center and the park store (operated by Western National Parks Association) is open daily from 9 am to 5 pm and the café, Sirphey at Bandelier, is open from 9am to 4:30pm.

On non entrance fee-free days, park entrance fees are $25 per private vehicle, $20 per motorcycle, or $15 per bicycle/individual. All entrance passes are valid for 7 days. Camping fees are not included in entrance fees. America the Beautiful– the National Parks and Federal Recreational Lands passes are accepted for entrance fees. The full suite of America the Beautiful – the National Parks and Federal Recreational Lands passes as well as Bandelier Annual passes are available for purchase at the visitor center.
