Berlin, MD –Assateague Island National Seashore continues with storm preparations in anticipation of Hurricane Joaquin to ensure the safety of park visitors, park employees and protection of park infrastructure. Please be advised of the following closures in the Maryland district of Assateague Island National Seashore: ·The Over-Sand Vehicle route is closed until the storm has passed. ·All national seashore campgrounds will close Friday, October 2 at 12:00 pm. Campers with existing reservations will be notified by the reservation company, recreation.gov. Campground will not reopen any earlier than 12:00 pm Wednesday, October 7. ·The Assateague Island National Seashore Visitor Center will be closed Sunday, October 4 until the storm passes. ·An island-wide closure is anticipated to occur Sunday, October 4 at 12:00 pm.
