News Release Date: August 25, 2011 Berlin, Maryland - Superintendent Trish Kicklighter today announced that the Maryland District of Assateague Island National Seashore will begin a phased closure of the park beginning with the closure of the off-road vehicle route at 10:00 pm Thursday evening, 8/25/2011. All campers will be required to leave the park by 12:00 noon Friday, 8/26. All areas south of the Ranger Station at North Beach will be closed to all public use as of 12:00 noon Friday 8/26. The North Beach Day Use Area will remain open until 7:00 pm Friday evening, 8/26, at which time the entire Seashore will be closed to the public. The National Seashore is expected to remain closed through at least Monday morning, 8/29/2011, to ensure the safety of both the public and park staff.
