Puma Profiles: P-15

Mountain lion walking next to a creek.

Male
Initial capture date: Winter 2010

This male mountain lion was the first (and hopefully the last) case of poaching researchers have documented in the Santa Monica Mountains. His body -- decapitated and all four paws severed off -- was found by hikers in the western Santa Monica Mountains in the summer of 2011. A year-long investigation did not turn up anything. First captured in the winter of 2010, his parents are P-1 and an unknown female lion, who also beget P-11, P-14, P-20, and Griffith Park’s famed P-22.
