Arkansas Post National Memorial plans to conduct a prescribed fire on portions of the park on Tuesday 10/03/2023 and Wednesday 10/04/2023.
The objectives of the 70-acre unit are to reduce the buildup of hazardous wildland fuels for the prevention and control of wildfires, to protect infrastructure, and to improve wildlife habitat.
Some road and trail closures may be needed for day of the prescribed fire operation and for a period of time afterwards for the safety of the pubic and the NPS Fire staff working. Some of the roads may include the access road to the picnic area.
Visitor’s may experience short periods of dense smoke in the park area during the prescribed fire. We ask that visitors drive with caution and follow the warning signs and directions of NPS staff that may be on scene. They may also notice lingering smoldering of stump holes, dead and down debris several days after the conclusion of main event of the prescribed fire, these are normal for this type of land management treatment.
Questions should be directed to the Arkansas Post National Memorial Visitor Center, during normal hours of operations, by telephone at 1-870-548-2027.
