MOAB, Utah— Arches National Park’s fourth timed entry pilot program, which was paused during peak summer heat, will resume in time for the Labor Day holiday weekend. Starting August 28th, visitors will need to reserve a ticket in advance in order to enter the park between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. daily through October 31.

Reservations can be made online at www.Recreation.gov or by calling 1-877-444-6777. Tickets are available now; additional next-day tickets will be released at 7 p.m. daily starting August 27. Those without reservations may enter the park before 7 a.m. or after 4 p.m. but may experience additional crowding, especially in late afternoon. Reservations cannot be made at Arches’ entrance booths. Timed entry reservations are not required for visitors on commercial tours or those who have camping reservations, tour tickets, or hiking or special use permits. Reservations are also not required at Canyonlands National Park.

Both Arches and Canyonlands national parks anticipate a busy Labor Day holiday weekend. Visitors should expect increased traffic, long lines at park entrances, busy trails, and limited parking at both parks.

Late summer can bring widely varying weather conditions to the high desert. Plan for your safety by checking forecasts and choosing activities appropriately. On hot days, consume plenty of water and healthy snacks and avoid strenuous hikes and prolonged sun exposure. Carry a headlamp and extra layers, as the sun may set earlier than you expect. If monsoon rainstorms are forecast, avoid travel on unpaved backcountry roads. Lightning can be fatal; seek shelter in a building or vehicle as soon as you hear thunder.
