Bayfield, WI – The National Park Service (NPS) is pleased to announce that the temporary trail closures in place on Oak, Michigan, Stockton and Manitou Islands have been lifted.

During late July storms in 2016, straight line winds caused large areas of blowdown. Trail closures were necessary to ensure visitor safety.

Apostle Islands National Lakeshore’s Acting Superintendent Myra Foster said “Trails that were closed due to storm damage are now open. Thanks to the hard work and commitment from the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness’ saw team, we were able to open 25 miles of trails for the enjoyment of visitors and access for emergency personnel.”
