Campers at Apostle Islands National Lakeshore will be able to check campsite availability and reserve sites on-line beginning January 27, 2016. That is the date when Apostle Islands National Lakeshore Camping Permits become available from the www.recreation.gov website. Upon logging in to the website and searching for “Apostle Islands National Lakeshore Camping Permits”, campers will be able to plan their itinerary, pay for, and print out their camping permits before visiting the park.

Apostle Islands National Lakeshore presently has nine group campsites, 55 individual campsites, and primitive camping zones on 16 islands. Group campsites can accommodate 8 to 21 campers. Individual campsites are for one to seven campers. Up to five people can camp in a primitive camping zone. The park does not have any drive-in campsites. Under the park’s new fee structure, the cost for using group campsites is $30/night. Individual campsites and primitive camping zones cost $15/night. A $10 reservation fee is also charged for each trip.

Reservations for using group campsites in 2016 can be made immediately. Reservations for using individual campsites or primitive camping zones can be made beginning 30 days before the start of a trip. Reservations may be made on Recreation.gov up to five days before the start of a trip. If you would like to make a reservation within five days of the start of your trip, you must contact Apostle Islands National Lakeshore directly by calling 715-779-3397. Campers making their reservations on-line can print their permits beginning seven days before the start of a trip. If the permit is not printed at least two days before the start of a trip, campers must stop at Apostle Islands National Lakeshore’s headquarters visitor center in Bayfield to pick up their permit before heading into the park.
