Come celebrate the birth of our nation and the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the National Park Service (NPS). On Monday July 4 at 7 pm, the Northern Great Lakes Visitor Center in Ashland, WI will host a “National Park Trivia Contest – Battle of the Gateway Communities”. Two four-person teams of distinguished representatives from area communities will compete against each other to display their in-depth knowledge of the National Parks. The list of dignitaries who are scheduled to attend includes Bayfield Mayor Gordy Ringberg, David Eades from the Bayfield Chamber of Commerce, Bayfield teacher Eric Iversen, director of the Madeline Island Museum Steve Cotherman, Northland College professor Elizabeth Andre, Bayfield County Board member Jeff Silbert, and State Senator Janet Bewley. Neil Howk, Assistant Chief of Interpretation and Education at Apostle Islands National Lakeshore, will serve as the master of ceremonies; asking the questions, judging the answers, and enforcing (or making up) the rules.

The public is invited to this free event to enjoy a few fireworks indoors before the usual outdoor fireworks displays later in the evening. Cheer on your favorite team and perhaps help them answer a few questions. The Northern Great Lakes Visitor Center is located off County Highway G about three miles west of Ashland, WI.
