The newest mural in Ashland’s Mural Walk will be unveiled on June 25, 2016 at 11:00 a.m., in a public ceremony on the corner of 9th Avenue West and Main in Ashland, Wisconsin. The mural, which will be on the east wall of Star Liquor, features the rich natural beauty of the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore. National Park Superintendent Bob Krumenaker noted, “The mural celebrates the 100th birthday of the National Park Service in 2016 while featuring the National Park unit in Ashland’s front yard. The dedication, foresight, and fundraising of the Friends of Apostle Islands National Lakeshore and the Mural Walk Board made this possible. The artwork of Sue Martinsen is truly inspiring.”
The backdrop for the Ashland Mural Walk is the 8-block Main Street business district. This district is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and provides the perfect location for these exquisite murals.
The mural dedication ceremony will include: mural unveiling, brief comments by Wisconsin State Senator Janet Bewley, President of the Ashland Mural Walk Project Lynn Adams, Mural Artist Sue Martinsen, President of the Friends of the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore Erica Peterson and Apostle Islands National Lakeshore Superintendent Bob Krumenaker. Refreshments will be served.
The Mural Board would like to remind everyone that there are still $50 and $100 bricks for sale to support the painting of the mural. Several scenes are also available for purchase. Forms are available on the Ashland Chamber of Commerce website: www.visitashland.com.
