To mark the 150th anniversary of the Nation's greatest conflict, Appomattox Court House NHP is submitting monthly articles to chronicle this epic struggle. These articles profile what was happening nationally each month, but the purpose is to show how the County of Appomattox and the surrounding area known as Southside Virginia reacted to the national drama as it unfolded. Southside Virginia is considered to be the area of Virginia south of the James River, from Lynchburg to Richmond, down to the North Carolina state line. These articles began in November 2010, the 150th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln's election to the presidency, and will run through the Summer of 2015. Click the months below to see the articles.
