In conjunction with National Park Week, Andersonville National Historic Site will celebrate Junior Ranger Day on April 23, 2011. This program is designed to help children and families connect and engage in the National Park System as a whole as well as individual parks around the country with the theme of “Explore, Learn, Protect: Be a Junior Ranger.” As a Junior Ranger, you can help protect natural and historic areas in our country! There is no charge for these programs and there is no need to register. A parent or guardian is asked to accompany each participating Junior Ranger. Each child who completes our program will earn a Junior Ranger badge, and certificate when they are sworn in as Junior Rangers. New Junior Rangers can also begin the Junior Civil War Historian program. This new program requires visiting three participating parks before earning the historian patch. Exploring the park and completing our Junior Ranger program allows children and their families the opportunity to better understand the sacrifices of the many brave men and women that have fought so hard for our freedom and the importance of preserving our nation’s history. Andersonville National Historic Site is located ten miles south of Montezuma, Georgia, and ten miles north of Americus, Georgia on Highway 49.
