What is Climate Change?

Climate change is the long-term shift in global temperatures.

Climate change has many factors, but the main cause of rising global temperatures are the result of increased levels of greenhouse gases in the earth's atmosphere. Greenhouse gasses trap heat. The more heat we have around our planet, the more our average global temperature increases. We see the effects of climate change in Alaska's melting glaciers, rise in water levels, and decline of several species. We see more direct effects of climate change here in Alaska than any where else in the United States.

What you can do to help: Little changes make big differences. Think small for big impacts!
  • Recycle
  • Tread Lightly and greenscape
  • Buy local products--products that are not local travel a long way to your supermarket, which uses tons of fuels.
  • Use push lawn mowers
  • If possible, install solar panels or invest in alternative energy sources
  • Make sure your house is properly sealed and weather tight
  • Repair toilet and facet leaks right away.
  • Education
