Join a Park Ranger for a hike of Inclined Plane No. 8 on Sunday, September 26, 2021, at 2:00 PM. Of the 10 inclined planes on the Allegheny Portage Railroad, No. 8 was the longest and steepest. Participants will learn about the inclines and levels of the railroad, how the system functioned, and will be able to view a historic culvert. For this 2-mile hike, participants are encouraged to wear good walking shoes and bring water. The hike contains steep slopes and rough surfaces. It will take place rain or shine. Space for this hike is limited. Reservations are required for this free hike and can be made by calling the Visitor Center at 814-886-6150.
