The National Parks of Western Pennsylvania (WEPA) invite visitors of all ages and members of the media to attend a press conference on Friday, October 28, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. at the Staple Bend Tunnel. The one-hour event will highlight the 33 miles of trails across the five parks: Allegheny Portage Railroad National Historic Site, Johnstown Flood National Memorial, Flight 93 National Memorial, Fort Necessity National Battlefield, and Friendship Hill National Historic Site.

“Trails provide visitors with a place to reflect and explore the diverse history of our National Parks,” said Superintendent Stephen M. Clark. “We are grateful for the many volunteers and partner organizations who help care for these beautiful trails.”

With the Staple Bend Tunnel as a backdrop, National Park Service and partner organizations will provide remarks and discuss future trail extensions.

Visitors wishing to attend the event are encouraged to allow ample time to hike or bike to the tunnel. Parking is available off of Beech Hill Road in Mineral Point, PA. The round-trip distance is four miles, and the event will be held rain or shine. No motor vehicles are permitted on the trail.
