Object of the Month

Adams National Historical Park (Adams NHP) is excited to debut our new Object of the Month feature. Each month, the park’s curatorial team will feature an object from the extensive collection at Adams NHP, including furniture, decorative arts, portraiture, textiles, books and more.

This year, we commemorate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. John Adams played an important role in creating the Declaration, 21 years before his term as second President of the United States, 1797-1801. Throughout 2026, we will be commemorating this milestone by featuring objects related to the American Revolution and the two generations of Adamses that shaped and led this nation.

Eighty years ago in 1946, the Adams Memorial Society, Inc., donated to the people of the United States all the articles of personal property and real estate located at 135 Adams Street, Quincy, Massachusetts, “to be preserved and maintained as a place of historic and public interest and as an educational exhibit and not for profit, and with the purpose of fostering civic virtue and patriotism...” The dedicated staff at Adams National Historical Park continues to serve as stewards of the homes and objects owned by John and Abigail Adams, their eldest son John Quincy and his wife Louisa Catherine Adams, and the generations that followed.
