The Acadia National Park Advisory Commission will meet at the Moore Auditorium on the Schoodic Education and Research Center campus in the Schoodic District of Acadia National Park at 1–3 pm on Tuesday, September 2, 2014. The meeting is open to the public and will include an opportunity for public comment.
Superintendent Sheridan Steele will provide updates about National Park Service drone policy, new staff hires, the park entrance pass fee program, concessions operations, Park Loop Road vista management, future strategic park planning, upcoming construction projects, and the Schoodic Woods project. In addition, there will be a discussion about the status of Commission members whose three year terms are expiring. The Schoodic Institute will provide a tour of the newly opened Rockefeller Hall Welcome Center and present a summary about programs and activities taking place on the Schoodic Education and Research Center campus.
Congress created the Acadia National Park Advisory Commission in 1986 to consult with the National Park Service on matters relating to the management and development of the park, including, but not limited to, the acquisition of lands and interests in lands. The Commission is composed of 16 members with three members appointed by the Secretary of the Interior, three members appointed by the Governor of Maine, and one member appointed by each of the following towns: Bar Harbor, Cranberry Isles, Frenchboro, Gouldsboro, Mount Desert, Southwest Harbor, Swans Island, Tremont, Trenton, and Winter Harbor. The Acadia National Park Advisory Commission meets three times per year.
