BAR HARBOR, MAINE - The National Park Service (NPS) will open the Park Loop Road to motor vehicles on Saturday, April 15, to begin the summer season at Acadia National Park. The Hulls Cove Visitor Center, Thompson Island Picnic Area, and Echo Lake Beach will also open on April 15. The Hulls Cove Visitor Center will be open daily from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. The Thompson Island Picnic Area will be closed to motor vehicles daily at dark throughout the summer.
The carriage roads in Acadia National Park remain closed to all uses until further notice to prevent damage to their gravel surface while the ground is still soft.
“The park staff is working hard to prepare for another busy season at Acadia,” said Superintendent Kevin Schneider. “We encourage visitors to plan ahead to make the most of their time in Acadia and hope everyone has a safe and memorable experience.”
The NPS will continue to open other park facilities, including restrooms, campgrounds, and picnic areas, throughout May in preparation for the summer season. For updates on the opening of facilities at Acadia National Park, please visit www.nps.gov/acad/planyourvisit/hours or call 207-288- 3338.
