A Walk on the Bar

Bar Harbor, ME - On Saturday, February 18, from noon to 3:30, join Acadia National Park ranger Angi King Johnston and local naturalist Rich MacDonald, for a winter bird walk along the bar to Bar Island and then a talk at the downtown Abbe Museum. Meet at The Natural History Center on 6 Firefly Lane (near the Village Green) in Bar Harbor at noon. From there, the group will walk to the bar and head out to the island. It's also the weekend of the Great Backyard Bird Count, so Ms. King Johnston and Mr. MacDonald will be stopping at a couple of places to give folks a chance to participate in the count. Upon returning to town about 2:30, participants are invited to visit the Abbe Museum for hot drinks and light refreshments and to enjoy a talk and presentation by Mr. MacDonald entitled "A Brief History of the Birds of Mount Desert Island." The Abbe is open from 10am to 4pm that day, so you may also take advantage of viewing the exceptional exhibits there.

Please keep in mind that it may be very cold on the bar, so dress warmly and wear sturdy shoes. In case of inclement weather, such as heavy rain or snow, the walk will be cancelled. We will instead meet at the Abbe Museum at noon for the indoor part of the program.
