Volunteers Build Tool Shed

A pine wood, two story shed with barn doors open to the left and regular doors open to the right stands facing the viewer. A green metal roof covers the structure, while small amounts of cloudy sky can be seen surrounding the structure.
The Trail Crew at Acadia has a new tool shed, with almost all of the design and over 50% construction efforts coming from volunteers. This larger facility was needed to better consolidate the crew’s many tools, and house them in adequate storage and provide protection from the elements. Design concepts for the initial structure were worked out and agreed upon by Trails Foreman Gary Stellpflug and longtime Acadia volunteer, Mark Munsell in the summer of 2018.

An elderly man, wearing a salmon colored hat faces the camera. He is wearing glasses and has white hair.Actual construction started in September, led by Mark himself. A small group of local volunteers assisted him in the building efforts. The primary As fall turned into winter, park service staff began working with the volunteers. The primary structure of the tool shed was completed before winter, but outside stairs, and shelving and tool racks were still needed for the shed to be functional.

One of our other longtime carpentry volunteers, Kip Warren then came into the picture and started design plans for the outside stairs. These plans began in February, and by April, Kip was outside constructing them, along with fellow volunteers Bob Graham and Ken Burgess. It is just now the end of May and the stairs are completed and the volunteers are working on re-purposing shelves, tool racks, and mounts from one of Trail Crew’s smaller, now defunct tool trailers.Three middle age men set facing the camera on bright wooden steps.

Many thanks go out to all of the volunteers who have helped in the construction and functionality of this new tool shed!
