Meet Tommy and Sandra Jarrett, Campus Host Volunteers 2019
Campus Host volunteers, Tommy and Sandra Jarrett, share with us a little bit about their experience volunteering at Acadia National Park:
We are Tommy and Sandra Jarrett from Madison, Mississippi, and for the past three months we have volunteered as Campus Hosts at Schoodic Institute in Acadia National Park. Our primary opportunity for service at Schoodic included working in the Welcome Center at Rockefeller Hall where we greeted and directed visitors, sold merchandise, and shared the mission of Schoodic Institute. During our time here, we loved engaging in conversations with hundreds of interesting people. In addition, we served as hosts for guests staying on campus. Working four days on and four days off allowed us to explore Acadia and enjoy the many trails here on Schoodic Peninsula. Schoodic Head became our favorite hike due to the challenging trail and the beautiful vistas. Without a doubt, volunteering in Acadia National Park has been a most memorable experience for us and one we hope will be repeated.
Phyllis Morris, Schoodic Institute Welcome Center Manager, shares what it was like to work closely with the Jarrett’s throughout their time at Acadia National Park:
Having Campus Hosts such as Sandra & Tommy Jarrett was an absolute pleasure for me. From the very first day, they were extremely dedicated in fulfilling their commitment as Campus Host volunteers for three months working for Acadia and Schoodic Institute at the same time. Everything was done with a smile and with ease, especially since they had never held a volunteer position before. They were amazingly quick to learn about the past Navy history of the campus and to study the mission of Schoodic Institute and Acadia National Park. They enjoyed greeting and assisting every single visitor and appreciated being here in this beautiful, and incredible environment!
Thank you Jarrett’s for your time and commitment! Although only here a short while, your contagious positive attitudes and work ethic made a world of difference to those that you came in contact with while volunteering at Acadia National Park.
