Public Meeting Held for Knob Creek Tavern Exhibits

Hodgenville, Kentucky: The National Park Service announces a public meeting to share the schematic designs for new exhibits for Lincoln Tavern for Knob Creek, at the Boyhood Home Unit of Abraham Lincoln National Historical Park. The meeting is open to the public and will be held in the theater of the Abraham Lincoln Birthplace Visitor Center located at 2995 Lincoln Farm Road in Hodgenville, Kentucky from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. ET on Wednesday, February 28, 2018.

The National Park Service is working with Color-Ad, Inc. of Manassas, Virginia and The Design Minds, Inc. of Fairfax, Virginia to design and fabricate the exhibits. In this preliminary phase of development, the design team will share three schematic alternatives for the exhibits to interpret Lincoln's life at Knob Creek. The exhibit planners and designers will show how they intend to distill the interpretive stories and themes into messages easily understood in exhibits. In this early stage, attendees can expect to see a bubble diagram, a tentative floorplan and a few illustrations for each alternative.

The exhibits will focus on Abraham Lincoln's life and experiences while he was living at Knob Creek and how they shaped his later life and presidency.

The exhibits are part of a multi-phase project at the Lincoln Tavern. An accessible restoom facility along with new sidewalks, improved landscaping and an expanded parking area have already been completed.

During this phase of the process, the designers and park have agreed upon a preferred alternative concept (from the initial three schematics) and all major details of the exhibition have been accounted for and developed. Design and content are now both integrated into coherent visual layouts and complex media elements requiring further development are fully described. The physical structure and operational characteristics of the exhibit are established and fully rendered exhibit drawings are provided to understand how actual panels and structures will look within the space.
