HODGENVILLE – The 2022 presenter series, The Promise of Freedom, is pleased to host superintendents Catherine Bragaw (Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historical Park), Ernie Price (Camp Nelson National Monument) and Dawn Davis (Mill Springs Battlefield National Monument) from three National Park Service sites in Kentucky. All three superintendents will participate in a roundtable discussion on Lincoln’s Promise of Freedom and its relevance today. Visitors are invited to bring their questions for this dialogic discussion.
The program will held on Saturday, October 1, 2022 at the Hodgenville Civic Center in downtown Hodgenville, Kentucky and will take place from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. (ET) All three sites have a deep connect to the nation’s struggle and advancement of freedom.
Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historical Park narrates the message of Lincoln’s evolving understanding of freedom born from his humble beginnings, Camp Nelson National Monument embraces the enslavement to soldier story of freedom and the promise of citizenship, and Mill Springs National Monument shares the battlefield and camp sacrifice of those who fought for freedom. Early in the Civil War, Lincoln reportedly said, “I hope to have God on my side, but I must have Kentucky.”
The new 2022 presenter series features historians, performers, park superintendents, and others throughout the year. The “Promise of Freedom” will focus on various aspects of Abraham Lincoln’s commitment to a country of free people, a commitment Lincoln fully realized only after considerable bloodshed during the Civil War. Stay tuned throughout the year as we announce new presenters.
