Abraham Lincoln Birthplace announces Park Ranger Speaker Series “Our Park Stories” for 2024

HODGENVILLE, Ky – Join National Park Service Rangers from the Abraham Lincoln Birthplace in 2024 for the speaker series “Our Park Stories.” Rangers will share stories of their experiences and history of parks they have worked in the past and have special, personal connections to. All events in this series are fee and open to the public. All presentations will be made at the Birthplace Visitor Center Auditorium and held at 1:00 p.m. (ET) on each date listed below.

2024 “Our Park Stories” Schedule:

January - “Unearthing the Arrowhead” Saturday, January 6th

Kick off your 2024 with our Park Ranger Speaker Series! Join Ranger John to explore the early history of public lands protected by the National Park Service... from natural resources at Yellowstone and Hot Springs to cultural sites at Mesa Verde and Lincoln Birthplace.

March: - “A Rookie Ranger Guide to American Treasures” March 23, 2024

Join Ranger Nick as he discusses the influence of law on the National Park Service as a whole, stewardship, and American conservation/ preservation origins. Past trends and current trends will be discussed as well as challenges faced with conservation/ preservation efforts.

May: - “History in the National Parks” May 18, 2024

The National Park Service preserves some of the great natural wonders of our country, but also some of the great cultural ones as well. Ranger Steve will discuss some of the historical parks he has worked at and how those parks have changed over time.

July: - “Exploring the Maintenance World” July 20, 2024

Join Chief of Facilities Scott Powell as he discusses the logistics and tools of the trade of park facilities and maintenance. Have you ever wondered what it takes to make the grounds beautiful? How much snow and ice has to be moved? Come and find out!

August: -“Growing up in the Park Service” August 24, 2024

Join Ranger Lauren as she discusses her experiences growing up in national parks while her mother was, and still is, a Ranger and how that impacted her and her decision to follow in her footsteps.

September: -“One Chapter Ends, Another Begins” September 21, 2024

Join Ranger Chris as he discusses his transition from a full-time college student to working full time for the National Park Service, decision to go to grad school, and rapid switch in his long-term career choice.

November:- “These Honored Dead” November 19, 2024

Join Ranger Stacy as she shares memories of working at her first national park, Gettysburg National Military Park and of Lincoln and his ‘Few Appropriate Remarks’ at the dedication of Gettysburg Soldiers National Cemetery in 1863. What brought Lincoln to Gettysburg, how was the Cemetery first formed and how Gettysburg itself had an impact Stacy’s career will be revealed!
