Date: April 5, 2008

On Saturday, April 5, 2008, between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historic Site will join history buffs and preservationists in association with the Civil War Preservation Trust (CWPT) to help clean and restore America’s priceless battlefields, cemeteries and memorials. The nationwide effort –dubbed Park Day–is underwritten with a grant from The History Channel. For the second time, this year’s Park Day is presented in partnership with Take Pride in America, a division of the U.S. Department of the Interior.

Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historic Site is one of the sites that will benefit from Park Day-related activities. Volunteers are needed to assist with the heavy work of re-opening the park’s Overlook Trail at the Boyhood Home: Knob Creek Site. Scouting groups will receive special patches for picking up trash along Knob Creek and the entire general area. For more information about Park Day at Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historic Site, please contact Rodney Blanton or Patti Reynolds at 270-358-3137 or Rodney_Blanton@nps.gov/abli.

Park Day, now in its tenth year, is an annual hands-on preservation event created by CWPT to assist local groups with the maintenance of Civil War sites. Participants gather at the sites to help with activities that range from trash removal to trail building. In exchange for their hard work, volunteers receive t-shirt for their efforts.
