HODGENVILLE – In honor of National Trail Day, the Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historical Park held a ribbon cutting event at the newly improved Knob Creek Backcountry Trail at the Boyhood Home Unit at Knob Creek on Friday, June 3, 2022. Representatives from the park, the Student Conservation Association, and Knob Creek Conservancy were in attendance for the event.During the Spring months of 2022, the park completed a Cyclic Maintenance Project on the Knob Creek Backcountry Trail. Youth crew members from the Student Conservation Association began working on the trail on March 14, 2022 and completed the project on June 1, 2022. During this process, new drainage culverts were added to lessen the effects of erosion caused by water runoff. A newly constructed section of wooden landings and dense grade gravel were installed by the crew to improve the walking surface of the trail for hikers.
Visitors are encouraged to use the Knob Creek Backcountry Trail, just be sure to bring water, bug spray, and sturdy walking shoes. The grounds of the Boyhood Home Unit at Knob Creek and access to the Knob Creek Backcountry Trail are open daily from dawn to dusk.
