Hodgenville, Kentucky - Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historical Park re-opened to visitors today. Visitors can access all public areas and roads immediately while facilities and other public services are brought back online. Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historical Park has been closed since October 1 due to the lapse in Congressional appropriations. "We are very happy to be back at work and welcome visitors to Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historical Park," said Superintendent Bill Justice. "With the leaves approaching their peak color autumn is a particularly special seasons to enjoy all that Abraham Lincoln Birthplace has to offer." The area around the Memorial Building and visitor center and the area near the parking lot at the Boyhood Home are open. Many of the trails remain closed while park staff examines their condition. "For their safety we ask that people respect the few remaining closed areas," said Superintendent Bill Justice. The unheated restrooms in the Birthplace picnic area have been closed and winterized for the year. This is part of the park's normal seasonal preparations.
