Abraham Lincoln Birthplace Knob Creek Tavern One-Year Anniversary Ribbon Cutting Event HODGENVILLE –The Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historical Park Knob Creek Tavern One-Year Anniversary Ribbon Cutting event is scheduled for Saturday, October 8, 2022. A Bluegrass Concert and annual Fall Night Sky Program are also included in this year’s activities leading up to the main event. All events are free and open to the public. 

“Fall is the time when we bring in the harvest and express our gratitude for gifts given. One of those gifts given by members of this community to the nation, was the preservation of Lincoln’s Kentucky Boyhood Home at Knob Creek. On October 8th we will celebrate the great Lincoln story and Kentucky’s opening chapters that sowed the seeds of his greatness. I hope you will join us for an exciting celebration at the farm,” said Catherine Bragaw, park Superintendent.

Thursday, October 6, 2022: A Celebration of the Bluegrass
6:00 pm - Bluegrass Concert at the Knob Creek Tavern by One Lane Bridge.Visitors are encouraged to bring their own blankets and folding chairs. Concert will be held under a big tent top.

Friday, October 7, 2022: A Starry, Starry Night 
8:00 pm – Fall Night Sky Program at Knob Creek with Dr. Mark Pitts.Saturday,

October 8, 2022 Welcome Home - The Knob Creek Tavern Grand Ribbon Cutting and One Year Anniversary!
Sign Language Interpreters from the Northern Kentucky School for the Deaf are supported by the Lincoln Museum through a grant from the KY Humanities Council.

10:00 am  - Knob Creek Tavern Visitors Center is open to the public (ongoing).

10:00 am - Capture YOUR Memories of a Place. What are YOUR recollections of the Knob Creek Place? Do you remember visiting the Tavern as a child? Do you remember playing in the creek and walking the fields? We want to hear about it. Throughout the day, please visit the “Tent of Memories” as we collect your stories through voice recordings or writings. Photos, old memorabilia and family artifacts are encouraged and will be photographed for the historical record. Services done by Family Tree Nuts.

10:00 am - Art in the Park! Express your creative side with a drawing or painting of the Knob Creek Farm and pin on the provided clothesline to share with visitors. Your participation in this activity will help create a “revolving” art display for visitors to see throughout the day.10:30 am - Flag Raising Ceremony by the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Vine Grove Chapter, under Commander Kathi McElroy.

11:00 am - Grandpa Jones: Country Music and Comic. Kentucky Humanities Kentucky Chautauqua Presentation featuring a Grandpa Jones portrayal by David Hurt. You won’t want to miss this chance to see history and music come to life as “Grandpa Jones” returns to perform at the Knob Creek Tavern!

11:00 am - The Raptor Rehab of Kentucky! Come met birds of prey and have an up-close encounter with these amazing animals! Event will be ongoing until 3 pm.11:30 am - Fitness Walk or Run to the Knob Creek Overlook. Participants choice of activity level as one group will run to the Overlook and the second group will walk/hike this moderately challenging trail.

11:00 am - “The Living Farm” -Living history frontier life demonstrations by living historians include hearth cooking, blacksmithing and Lincoln too! Features Eric Johnson, well known historian and blacksmith.  

12:00 pm - “The Natural World- The Flora and Fauna of Knob Creek Tour” Naturalist Mr. Robert Bean, Kentucky State Forester will explore the wonders of the Lincoln farm. One hour.12:30 pm – An American Music Hall with One Lane Bridge.1:30 pm - Knob Creek Tavern Visitor Center Ribbon Cutting and 1st Anniversary Ceremony.

2:30 pm – An American Music Hall with One Lane Bridge.

3:30 pm - Readings of Change. Students will share works inspired by Lincoln’s life commitment to freedom and equality.

3:55 pm  - Farewell from President Lincoln.4: 00 pm - Knob Creek Unit closes.

The National Park Service will staff the renovated tavern on weekends only during the months of September and October from 10-00 a.m. to 4-00 p.m. (ET).
