HODGENVILLE, Ky. – The Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historical Park will reopen the Birthplace Visitor Center on Wednesday, April 7, 2021 to the public. Normal hours of operation will resume.
On January 21, 2021, the park’s Visitor Center was closed to install a fire suppression system. This $349,000 project was supported by National Park Service Repair/Rehabilitation funding. During the project a temporary visitor center opened in the park’s Memorial Building.
All National Park Service (NPS) buildings should be safe from loss of life and property by fire. The NPS seeks to improve employee and visitor safety by ensuring all NPS buildings are equipped with code compliant and properly maintained fire detection and fire suppression systems. This system is the first of its kind placed in the Birthplace Visitor Center that was built in the late 1950s.
The Birthplace Unit grounds are open daily. The main gate opens at approximately 8:00 a.m. (ET) and closes at 5:00 p.m. (ET). The park’s Memorial Building is open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (ET). Starting April 7, 2021, the Birthplace Visitors Center will be open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (ET).
