HODGENVILLE – The Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historical Park will hold a special observance, “Now He Belongs to the Ages” in memory of the 156th anniversary of the assassination and passing of President Abraham Lincoln.
During the park’s regular operating hours from April 10th to April 25th visitors will see the park’s Memorial Building columns draped in black and purple mourning bunting, a tradition that dates to Victorian times. This mourning tradition was observed in 1865 with homes, businesses and public buildings draped in black to honor Lincoln’s passing.
On the night of April 14, 2021, the park will illuminate the Memorial Building in white lights to observe the anniversary of the assassination and death of our 16th President. Visitors will be able to observe this special lighting from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. (ET). Special interpretive activities will be offered. The event is free and open to the public.
Visitors are encouraged to bring flashlights, bring bug spray and wear sturdy walking shoes for the evening event on April 14th.
