HODGENVILLE, Ky. – The Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historical Park will undertake a project to install a new fire suppression system within the Birthplace Visitor Center starting on January 21, 2021. During the project a temporary visitor center will be opened in the park’s Memorial Building as the Birthplace Visitor Center and administration office areas will be closed.

The project is planned to start on or near January 21, 2021 and will take approximately 3-4 months to complete. All National Park Service (NPS) buildings should be safe from loss of life and property by fire. The NPS seeks to improve employee and visitor safety by ensuring all NPS buildings are equipped with code compliant and properly maintained fire detection and fire suppression systems. This system will be the first of its kind placed in the Birthplace Visitor Center that was built in the late 1950s.

The Birthplace Unit grounds will remain open daily during the entire course of this project. The main gate opens at approximately 8:00 a.m. (ET) and closes at 5:00 p.m. (ET). The park’s Memorial Building is open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (ET). The park’s bookstore intends to operate a limited sales space within the Memorial Building during the project.
