Make the most of your park visit and Plan Your Adventure Like a Junior Ranger!

The Junior Ranger Activity Guide will open your eyes to the Indiana Dunes as they have never been before. The guidebook can be picked up at the Indiana Dunes Visitor Center or the Paul H. Douglas Center for Environmental Education. When you complete the Junior Ranger Activity Guide, bring it back to the Visitor Center or Paul H. Douglas Center to the receive a Junior Ranger badge.

In addition to the larger Junior Ranger Activity Guide, Indiana Dunes has a Beachcomber Activity Sheet for families enjoying the beach for the day. You can pick up a Beachcomber activity sheet the Indiana Dunes Visitor Center or Paul H. Douglas Center.

Stop by the Visitor Center or Paul H. Douglas Center for a printed copy of the Junior Ranger Activity Guide and Beachcomber Activity Sheet.

Junior Ranger Night Explorers

The Ursa Major constellation (the bear) is featured on this illustration of the Junior Ranger Night Explorer patch.

The National Park Service has developed a Junior Ranger Night Explorer program, encouraging young park visitors to explore the starry side of their national parks.

At Indiana Dunes National Park, Kemil Beach and parking lot is open 24 hours a day for nighttime explorations. Check out our Stargazing page for more information!

Children can learn how to find the North Star, write their own creative mythology about the constellations, track the phases of the moon, learn about stars and galaxies, and use all their senses to explore the night environment at a national park.

Want to become a Junior Ranger Night Explorer from home? Follow these easy steps:

  1. Download the booklet.
  2. Complete as much as you can as best as you can.
  3. Sign your booklet (and get a Park Ranger to sign it if you can!)
  4. Get your digital high five!
