Junior Ranger Family Programs

Kids Participating in the Junior Ranger program must attend one Ranger led activity in order to fulfill their requirements for Raven, Coyote, or Scorpion. The following programs are offered by the Environmental Education Branch of Grand Canyon during the SUMMER MONTHS ONLY (June thru August). By participating in these programs kids can fulfill their requirement for attending a Ranger led activity. Below you will find descriptions and start times for the programs specifically geared towards families visiting Grand Canyon National Park during the summer.

Children's Storytime Adventure Program

Storytime Adventure 
Storytime Adventure is held everyday on the lawn behind El Tovar Hotel from 1:30 to 2:00 beginning June 8 and ending September 1. Storytime is geared towards young visitors between the ages of 2 and 6. One of our National Park Rangers will read his or her favorite Grand Canyon themed childrens books.  Most of these stories require active audience participation. Children who participate can fulfill their Junior Ranger (Raven) requirement for attending a Ranger led program.

Way Cool Stuff For Kids and Kids Rock!
The Way Cool Stuff for Kids and Kids Rock! programs happen everyday at the Shrine of the Ages by Parking Lot A June to August (Kids Rock program ends Aug. 16 and Way Cool ends September 1.)  Kids Rock! begins at 10:00 a.m. and Way Cool Stuff for Kids starts at 4:00 p.m. The one-hour activities are appropriate for ages 6-12 and the kids should come prepared to have a lot of fun and learn something new! Programs will differ from day to day, previous topics have included: 

  • bizarre bats
  • amazing mountain lions
  • fire in a forest
  • water in our world
  • archeology
  • tremendous trees
  • animal tracking
  • astronomy
  • arts and crafts

plus many other subjects. Come and learn a few more reasons why Grand Canyon is a Way Cool place for Kids to Rock!
