Artwork of self-taught artist Clementine Hunter at Melrose Plantation, a National Historic Landmark. This legendary plantation was established by a family of "gens de couleur libre" (free people of color)around the time of the Louisiana Purchase. Later, Melrose became a 20th century artist colony.
