NPS to Burn Debris Pile Near Wrangell–St. Elias Slana Ranger Station, Slana, AK

Copper Center, AK--Wrangell – St. Elias National Park & Preserve Fire Management staff will conduct a debris pile burn April 16^th through April 19^th, if weather conditions allow. The piles are located near the park’s Slana Ranger Station, located in Slana, AK off the Nabesna Road.Multiple piles consist of trees and brush not suitable for firewood. Debris was created during a fuels reduction project that will aid in wildland fire protection to increase visitor and employee safety while providing defensible space for the park’s critical infrastructure. 

National Park Service Fire Management staff will be on-site to monitor the burning. Smoke is expected to be visible in the surrounding area, from the Tok Cutoff Highway or Nabesna road and from aircraft during this time.
