Copper Center, AK…The tentative pre-season fishing schedule for Federally qualified subsistence users in the Chitina Subdistrict of the Copper River was announced today by the Federal Subsistence Board. This pre-season schedule is identical to the State pre-season schedule and is subject to change based on numbers of salmon entering the Copper River. 2011 Federal Subsistence Salmon Fishery Pre-season Schedule for the Chitina Subdistrict of the Upper Copper River District.
This fishery is open, during the periods listed above, to Federally qualified subsistence users having customary and traditional use of salmon in this Subdistrict. Additional periods will be announced as the season progresses. A Federal permit is required to participate in the fishery under Federal regulations. This permit may be obtained without charge from the National Park Service offices in Copper Center or Slana from 8-4:30 Monday through Friday. The National Park Service office in Copper Center provides a recorded message phone with the most current fishing schedule. The recorded message is available 24-hours daily. The phone number is (907) 822-7256. Subsistence users are encouraged to call this number prior to fishing to determine if amendments have been made to previously announced fishing schedules.
