Seneca Falls, NY- In commemoration of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Pride Month (LGBT Month), Women's Rights National Historical Park will hold a public discussion on historical and current LGBTQ civil rights struggles on Saturday, June 25th at 1:00 pm in the Wesleyan Chapel. Featured speakers will be Megan Springate, PhD candidate, University of Maryland and the National Park Service's Prime Consultant to the LGBTQ Heritage Initiative along with Ethan Lewis, the LGBT Program Assistant at the Cortland, NY LGBT Resource Center. LGBT Month is celebrated each year in the month of June to honor the 1969 Stonewall riots in Manhattan which are widely recognized as a catalyst for the modern civil rights movement in the LGBT community.

The National Park Service LGBTQ Heritage Initiative project will identify places and events associated with the story of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender Americans and will explore how the legacy of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer individuals can be recognized, preserved, and interpreted for future generations. The National Park Service LGBTQ Heritage Initiative is one of a number of heritage initiatives to commemorate minorities and women who have made significant contributions to our nation's history and culture, including studies related to the history of Latinos, women, and Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders.

The National Park Service is America's storyteller and protector of the places where America's history can be found and is dedicated to sharing more diverse stories of our nation's history. We hope you can join us for the discussion.
