Women’s Rights National Historical Park will Host a Naturalization Ceremony

Seneca Falls, NY-- Women's Rights National Historical Park will host a naturalization ceremony at 11:00 AM on Friday, August 9, 2013, in the Wesleyan Chapel.  Twenty candidates will state the oath of citizenship and be presented certificates by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.  The twenty candidates are from sixteen countries around the world, including El Salvador, Ukraine, Taiwan, Thailand, Iraq, Kenya, Jamaica, Moldova, India, Cameroon, Russia, Sierra Leone, Ghana, Canada, South Sudan, Italy, and the People's Republic of China.  The public is invited to attend free of charge.

The Honorable Marian W. Payson will convene a special session of the U.S. District Court of the Western District of New York in the Wesleyan Chapel, and she will administer the oath of citizenship in the naturalization ceremony.

Gene Freese, Administrative Officer of Women's Rights National Historical Park, Barb Reese of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Honorable Marian W. Payson, and Immigration Services Officer Gwendolyn Eldridge of the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services will present brief remarks during the ceremony.

"Women's Rights National Historical Park interprets the history of the First Women's Rights Convention, and an integral part of that history is the story of citizenship," said Superintendent Ami Ghazala.  "We are proud to host this naturalization ceremony in the Wesleyan Chapel, the site of the First Women's Rights Convention," added Superintendent Ghazala.
