First Women's Rights Convention organizer, Mary Ann M'Clintock lived at 14 East Williams Street from 1836 to 1856 with her husband and five children. As members of the Society of Friends, or Quakers, the M'Clintock family was involved with antislavery societies and temperance reform. They raised money for Irish Famine relief, the Hungarian Revolution, the Waterloo public school, and held antislavery fairs. They ran an Underground Railroad Station in their home. In July of 1848 the family hosted a planning meeting for the First Women's Rights Convention and those gathered drafted the Declaration of Sentiments. Both parents and two oldest daughters attended and participated in the Seneca Falls Convention.
