Seneca Falls, NY – Women’s Rights National Historical Park is pleased to present “Center of the Rebellion” an exhibition of site-specific works by award-winning artist Andrea Arroyo.
The exhibition features indoor and outdoor works specifically created for the Elizabeth Cady Stanton House, an historic meeting place for the founders of the Women's Rights Movement.
Inspired by the life of Elizabeth Cady Stanton and the history and surroundings of the house, Arroyo created original works to be integrated with the architectural features, historical objects and furniture in the collection. This work creates a conversation between the past and the present, and allows for connections to be created between the female experience of Elizabeth Cady Stanton and her fellow suffragists and the contemporary viewer.
Arroyo has been exploring women’s issues throughout her career; with “Center of the Rebellion” she celebrates the achievements of the founders of the Women's Rights Movement in the 1800s.
About the artist: Andrea Arroyo is an award-winning artist with an extensive trajectory; her work is in the collections of The Library of Congress, the Smithsonian Institution, the National Museum of Mexican Art and the New York Public Library, among others.
Honors include: Global Citizen Award Artist, Clinton Global Initiative, 21 Leaders for the 21st Century Award; Groundbreaking Latina in the Arts; Official Artist of the Latin Grammys; New York City Council Citation Award for Achievement in Art; Art in Embassies Program of the US Department of State; Harlem Arts Alliance Award and Educational Press Association of America Achievement Award in Drawing.
