Seneca Falls, NY – Women’s Rights National Historical Park is proud to announce the opening of the newly furnished Elizabeth Cady Stanton and M’Clintock houses. During Stanton’s time in Seneca Falls, she lived in her home for 15 years. During this time she frequently hosted important civil rights leaders such as Susan B. Anthony, Frederick Douglass, Gerrit Smith, Lucretia Mott, and a host of others. The Elizabeth Cady Stanton House will be open Saturday July 8 from 11:00 am – 2:00 pm.
The M’Clintocks were involved in nearly every reform activity in Western New York. They hosted temperance, abolition, and women’s rights leaders regularly, raised money for those in need, ran a school for girls, and were involved in the underground railroad. Two days before the first Women’s Rights Convention Elizabeth Cady Stanton met the M’Clintocks in their parlor to draft the Declaration of Sentiments. They made a statement that would shock the world. The M’Clintock House will be open during Convention Days July 14-16 12:00 pm – 3:00 pm.
With the assistance of Linda Viertel of Serendipity Boutique, both, the Stanton Home and the M’Clintock have been furnished with period furniture to improve the visitor experience.
Women’s Rights National Historic Park is open Friday through Sunday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Beginning July 9th the park will be open 9:00 am to 5:00 pm seven days a week. For more information about the park and upcoming programs, please visit the website www.nps.gov/wori or call (315) 568-2991.
