LOCAL NATIONAL PARK TO CELEBRATE NATIONAL PARK WEEK AND JUNIOR RANGER DAY

Seneca Falls, NY – It's all about youth during National Park Week at Women's Rights National Historical Park from April 19^ththrough 27^th. On display will be the "Dream Rocket" textile art exhibit, created by young people to express their ideas and thoughts about women's rights and the women's rights movement. The title and theme for this exhibit,Immediate Admission to all the Rights and Priviliges,is taken from a phrase found in the Declaration of Sentiments, first read at the Seneca Falls Convention in 1848. You'll recognize many local artists in this exhibit!

Also on display are the moving essays about heroes written by students of the Elizabeth Cady Stanton School in Seneca Falls created in honor of Antonio Varacalli, the young man who lost his life in 1917 when he jumped into the Cayuga-Seneca Canal to save the life of another. It is believed this selfless action inspired a similar scene in the movie, "It's a Wonderful Life."

On April 26, National Junior Ranger Day, the park invites young visitors to "explore, learn, protect" and be sworn in as junior rangers. Throughout the day, kids of all ages will be revealing their ideas of what a National Park is to them along the "chalk walk". At 1:30 pm author Julia Lynam will present a talk on her book Treasures on Your Doorstep; The Other National Parks of the USA,followed by a book signing. Her program will detail some of the lesser known units of the National Park Service and provide an insider's-eye-view of what these parks can offer you and your family. And at 2:00 pm, a number of young authors from the Elizabeth Cady Stanton School will read their hero essays in the Wesleyan Chapel in the same spot Elizabeth Cady Stanton stood during the Women's Rights Convention of 1848.

Women's Rights National Historical Park is open Wednesday through Sunday, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm. Tours of the Wesleyan Chapel and of the Elizabeth Cady Stanton house are offered every day at 10:30 am and 1:30 pm. The park also offers a 30 minute orientation film Dreams of Equality, and a museum with exhibits. Admission to Women's Rights National Historical Park is free.
