Seneca Falls, NY --Local landscape artists Tom Hussey, Auburn, and Bev Lombardo, Seneca Falls, are August's featured artists in EN PLEIN AIR, a collaboration between the park and the Seneca County Arts Council. Their regional landscapes in a variety of media will be on display August 3-September 3 in the Women's Rights National Historical Park visitor center gallery, 136 Fall Street, Seneca Falls. They share information about their techniques and works at an opening reception Friday, August 3 at 5: 30 p.m. On Saturday, August 11, they lead an outdoor landscape art workshop at the historic Elizabeth Cady Stanton House, 32 Washington Street. Student art work will be presented to the public at a special reception in the park visitor center gallery on Saturday, August 18 at 3 p.m.

The events are part of ARTS AFIRE!, a National Park Service initiative to engage the public in their national parks through the arts. The landscape workshop includes a special tour and talk by park staff about women' s rights reformer Elizabeth Cady Stanton's home and grounds. "Whether chasing her boys out of cherry trees in their small orchard, sitting on her front porch reading and listening to songbirds in the summer, or putting up jam from berries from her gardens, Stanton was as engaged in her home and family as in reform activities. The park is thrilled to share this side of Stanton with artists and visitors," noted Tammy Duchesne, park superintendent.

Hussey, who opened his Auburn fine art and commercial design studio in 1998, has been painting in oils since he was twelve. He has completed hundreds of landscapes and has taught painting in a variety of settings including the Schweinfurth Art Museum. He is a member of many regional arts guilds and especially enjoys the richness of terrain and atmospheric conditions in the Finger Lakes region, which he frequently paints on location.

Lombardo, an illustrator, photographer and graphic designer for the Army for twenty-one years, received training from the Rochester Institute of Technology. She has taught photography and pastel classes and workshops in the region and has won awards for her designs and photography. Her current passion is working in pastels. Hussey and Lombardo are members of the Seneca County Arts Council, where Lombardo serves as president.

All events are free, but pre-registration is required for the space-limited day-long workshop on August 11. Contact 315-568-2991 ext. 5001 or e-mail us to register.
