Arts Council and Women’s Rights NHP Feature ARTS AFIRE! Poetry and Art Show

Seneca Falls, NY - The public is invited to attend a showing of poetry and art produced in two ARTS AFIRE! workshops at the historic Thomas and Mary Ann M'Clintock House at 14 East Williams Street in Waterloo, NY. The M'Clintock family harbored fugitive slaves on the Underground Railroad and hosted the meeting where the Declaration of Sentiments of the nation's First Women's Rights Convention was written in 1848. ARTS AFIRE! programs at National Parks throughout the United States engage the public with their cultural and natural resources through arts activities.

The opening is Sunday, March 18, from 2-4 p.m. at Women's Rights National Historical Park Visitor Center, 136 Fall Street, Seneca Falls, NY. A poetry reading and gallery talk by workshop participants and master artist-teachers Patricia Roth Schwartz and Lynn Patti will be followed by a reception. The show remains up through the end of March. The project is a collaboration between the Seneca County Arts Council and Women's Rights National Historical Park.

Two more ARTS AFIRE! programs are scheduled at Women's Rights National Historical Park in 2012. In July, Carol Flueckiger, a Texas Tech University Art Professor, will teach Postcards to the Past , a cyanotype postcard art workshop based on historical documents from women's rights reformers. In August, SCAC members will teach landscape portraiture in En Plein Air, about the Elizabeth Cady Stanton home and grounds.
