Tours of the Garden of Eden area of the cave will be given daily, except Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s, this winter at the world’s sixth-longest cave. Ranger led tours will leave at 10 a.m., 1 p.m., and 3 p.m. and traverse a section of cave revealing the boxwork formation for which the cave is world famous.

The tours are one hour in length and encounter 150 stairs. Tour fees are $6 for adults, $3 for ages 6-16, and $3 for Golden Age Passport holders. Children under six years of age are free. Tour tickets are available on a first-come, first-served basis at the visitor center.

The visitor center will be open daily, except on the holidays noted above, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The visitor center provides exhibits, including a display on the Subhyracodon occidentalis, a 32 million year-old rhinoceros recently uncovered in the park, audio-visual programs, and printed information highlighting park resources. A bookstore operated by the Black Hills Parks and Forests Association offers books, maps, posters, audio and video tapes pertaining to the natural and cultural history of the park and region.

Park Superintendent Linda L. Stoll said, “This is a great time of year to come out and enjoy the park. Tour the Garden of Eden area of the cave or, now that the weather is a little cooler, walk along some of our thirty miles of hiking trails."

Park roads and trails will remain open daily for those wishing to enjoy the park’s scenery, recreational opportunities, and abundant wildlife.
